Come Back Joe Strummer

comebackjoe1976 was the year of punk which means that 2016 is the, gulp, 40th anniversary. Way too many musicians have died too young and the great Joe Strummer, voted greatest human being for seemingly years on end by readers of the New Musical Express, is no exception. Do you remember where you were when you heard that he’d died? This song started out as a song about, really, ‘girl power’, which shows how old it is. Reworked and vastly improved with Joe’s inspiration.

The voices on the radio, yeah
They’re not talking to me
Pictures on the TV screen, yeah
They don’t show what I see
I’m sick and tired of it all
And I think I’ve passed this way before

Come back Joe Strummer, for one night more
Come back Joe Strummer, for one night more
One night more

If we bought the cars and houses,
ID computer error
We bought low crotch trousers
We’ll buy the war on terror
I’m still bored with the USA
And I hate all this hate and war

Come back Joe Strummer, for one night more
Come back Joe Strummer, for one night more
One night more
A last encore
